Abstract:
A freeze-dried gel containing sodium alginate loaded grape seed extract was prepared and its antibacterial and hemostatic properties were investigated. The freeze-dried gel SA/GSE/Fe
3+(SGF (0.75)) was obtained with the mixture of grape seed extract (GSE), sodium alginate (SA) and Fe
3+ by being freeze-dried twice. Then the porosity, water absorption, photothermal properties, antibacterial properties, biocompatibility and hemostatic properties of SGF(0.75) freeze-dried gel were investigated through
in vitro experiments. The prepared SGF(0.75) freeze-dried gel has a porosity of about 37% and a water absorption rate of about 1500%. Under near-infrared laser irradiation, SGF(0.75) freeze-dried gel can kill nearly 90% of
Staphylococcus aureus and 91% of
Escherichia coli. The hemostatic performance experiment shows that SGF(0.75) freeze-dried gel reduces blood loss and hemostatic time by 31% and 66%, respectively, in comparism with gauze. The prepared SGF(0.75) freeze-dried gel has strong hemostatic ability, good antibacterial effect, good biocompatibility, high safety, and can promote wound tissue healing. It has great application prospects in future clinical research.
