Abstract:
Polymers of intrinsic microporosity(PIMs)attract more and more attention in gas separation membranes with superior gas separation properties due to their highly developed intrinsically microporous structure which forms as a direct consequence of the highly contorted and rigid macromolecular chains.Microporous polyimide is a new type of polyimide developed in recent years by introducing highly contorted and rigid monomer unit into polyimide backbone. The microporous polyimide exhibits excellent gas separation performance, especially the great improvement of gas permeability due to the microporous structure. Moreover, microporous polyimides could maintain the good properties of conventional polyimides, such as high thermal stability, good chemical stability and high mechanical strength.Herein, the recent progress of microporous polyimide membranes and microporous polyimide-based hybrid membranes for gas separation is discussed. Finally, the perspective is put forward for the future research.
